The design of a new office building for Tollcross Housing Association has been informed by a number of factors, withparticular emphasis placed on scale and civic quality as an expression of the Associations identity within Tollcross and the greater Glasgow context.
Aspect and orientation was another priority. By maximising views across the adjacent parkland we create a direct link back to the surrounding landscape and allow this to become part of the daily user experience. Careful selection of the site ensured these views were north facing therefore minimizing the potential environmental issues of glare and overheating.
Double height working spaces further enhanced the physical aspects of the internal environment by encouraging excellent air quality and allowing constant natural north light to enter deep into the building plan.
The conceptual design aspiration seeks, through a manipulation of plan and section, to allow spaces for individuals, small groups and entire departments which are clearly defined while the ‘mezzanine’ arrangement affords the added comfort and experience of being part of the larger collective.
The building aspires to be comfortable for all users, staff, tenants, committee members and affords space for all, public space on the ground floor, main office arranged over two upper floors with views focused on the park and on the top floor spaces for committee members and staff.
